Mindful Eating and Nutritional Coaching

I am like many women and have been influenced by the “Hollywood” image of what is beautiful in a woman.  These days it seems to be what I could call “skinny.” I choose to not label a woman’s body by terms like fat, plump or skinny.  To me, healthy is what matters the most.

I am overweight.  Yes, even what medical science calls obese. I am aware that this is not a healthy way to be. I do however, know that because I sit most of the time,it has lead to my obesity. I live with arthritis in my spine which basically means my spine is crumbling. I also have COPD after a lifetime of chronic bronchitis due to a bad case of whooping cough as a child. That and growing up in a home with two smokers. I don’t blame them. They did not know.

Eating intuitively is pretty new to me but I love it. We all know that diets do not work. THEY DO NOT WORK. So before I learned about mindful eating, I had already been eating a healthy and wholesome diet. I am a scratch cook and have always tried to feed this temple with the right foods.

I became a certified nutrition coach just for myself, really, but I love to share with others. I am an omnivore and to be honest, think it is a healthy way to eat but then, a vegetarian diet is healthy too.  Any food plan we are on can be healthy as long as we eat from all food groups, in the proportions recommended.

I love to cook so, planning my meals is guided by those proportions but also by the flavors of what I plan to cook!

I practice what is called mindful eating. Mindful eating is a non-diet approach to food that focuses on listening to your body’s internal cues of hunger, fullness, and satisfaction, rather than following external rules. It is based on the idea that humans are born intuitive eaters and that dieting can disrupt this natural ability. The goal is to make peace with food, improve body image, and foster a healthier relationship with eating without the stress and rules of a diet.

I won’t go into all the points about intuitive eating here but join with me, and I can guide you into this fun way of looking at how we eat.
